AUTISM ALLIANCE OF MICHIGAN TO OFFER FREE ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES-FOCUSED CONFERENCE THIS FEBRUARY

Southfield, Michigan (December 16, 2015) — The Autism Alliance of Michigan (AAoM) to offer its first conference geared specifically to adults with disabilities, with special guest Michigan Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, from 8 am until 4 pm on February 11, 2016, at the Hannah Community Center (819 Abbot Rd) in East Lansing, Michigan.

“We have heard and received the calls from families and individuals who struggle to find resources and information for themselves or their adult loved ones with a disability, in what feels like a sea of resources for children,” said Colleen Allen, PhD, CEO for AAoM.

Thanks to sponsorship by University of Michigan’s Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, AAoM is able to offer the full-day conference to individuals with disabilities and/or their parents free of charge.

AAoM invites all interested parties to join them for a day of collaborating, learning important new state policies and benefits that are available, while navigating an adult life with any physical or mental disability. Additionally, attendees will discover community and housing resources, creative microbusinesses, and talented individuals among the conference’s participants.

Navigating Adulthood with Disability: Overcoming Barriers and Challenges will offer 12 break-out sessions designed specifically to address the issues that adults with any physical, mental, or behavioral disability face. Following a kick-off talk with the Lt. Governor setting expectations for employment and care for adults with disabilities, Best-in-State speakers from MSU, EMU, MRS, DHHS, ARC, AAoM, CACIL, Greater Lansing Housing Authority & many more will follow.

While AAoM was launched as an autism-focused organization, the information provided at Navigating Adulthood with Disability: Overcoming Barriers and Challenges applies to all who are living life with a disability and should be shared and not divided.  Therefore, AAoM welcomes all individuals, caregivers, or providers to attend the conference and access this valuable information. Registration will be first-come, first-serve as space is limited.
